How to Manage Wispr Flow Notifications on iOS

Last updated: April 30, 2026

Available on: iOS, Android, Mac, Windows

Getting too many alerts from Flow — or missing the ones you want? This guide shows you how to turn push notifications on or off, explains the in-app cards inside the keyboard, and covers desktop notification behavior.

How to enable or disable push notifications

iOS

Change push notification settings from the iPhone Settings app:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

  2. Scroll down and tap Apps.

  3. Tap Wispr Flow, then tap Notifications.

  4. Toggle Allow Notifications on or off. The toggle is green when enabled, gray when disabled.

Tip: You can also toggle Push Notifications in Wispr Flow → Settings. The behavior depends on your current permission state:

  • If you haven't been asked yet (e.g., skipped during onboarding), toggling on shows the iOS permission dialog.

  • If you previously denied, toggling on redirects to iPhone Settings to re-enable.

  • If currently enabled, toggling off redirects to iPhone Settings, since iOS requires system-level changes to disable notifications.

The toggle state refreshes automatically when you return to the app.

Android

On Android, Wispr Flow shows one system notification — the "display over other apps" permission notice required for the app to work. You won't see any additional persistent notifications from Wispr Flow itself.

You may also receive a push notification ("Enjoying Flow?") once you've completed at least 3 successful dictations and dictated 500 or more words, inviting you to rate the app. Tapping the notification opens the review card on the Home screen. It won't appear if you've had a failed dictation that day.

Keyboard notification cards (iOS & Android)

Wispr Flow shows notification cards directly inside the keyboard while you're using it. These appear in-app, don't require notification permissions, and start showing after you've completed at least 3 successful dictations.

How the notification panel works

  • Opening: The panel slides up from the bottom of the keyboard. Tap the menu icon to open it.

  • Closing: Swipe down, tap the X, or tap anywhere outside the panel.

  • Badge: A small badge appears on the keyboard menu icon when you have unread cards.

  • Priority: Newer cards appear first.

  • Default view: When no card is active, the panel shows your usage statistics instead.

  • Dismissal: Cards can be dismissed individually. Most cards won't reappear once dismissed.

Note: After your very first successful dictation, a "Congrats on your first dictation 🎉" message appears in the keyboard toolbar.

Card types

Words remaining warning

A heads-up when you're approaching your weekly word limit. Triggers at 200 words remaining of the 1,000 words/week free-tier soft cap. A hard cap at 1,500 words/week blocks further dictation. Only appears for Basic (free) plan users.

If dismissed, it may reappear the following week if you used fewer than 800 words. When the limit is fully exhausted, the keyboard statistics panel shows a "No words remaining" state.

App Store rating request (iOS)

A prompt to rate Wispr Flow. Appears after 3 or more successful dictations.

Google Play Store review nudge (Android)

A review card appears on the Home screen after you've completed at least 3 successful dictations and dictated 500 or more words. The card won't appear if you've had a failed dictation that day. The card gives you two options:

  • Rate us 5 stars: Opens the Google Play in-app review sheet directly.

  • Leave Feedback: Opens an in-app dialog where you can type and submit feedback directly.

Tap the X or tap outside the card to dismiss it permanently — it won't reappear after dismissal. The nudge appears once per app version.

Referral/earn card

Information about your referral rewards. May reappear in future sessions after dismissal.

500-words milestone card

Shown when your total dictated words reach 500–599. Displays "🎙️ You dictated 500 words" with the message "That's basically a short story." Always appears together with the Referral/earn card. Dismiss to hide permanently.

Stats unlocked card

Notifies you when usage stats become available after reaching the 500-word milestone.

Locked stats card

Shown when you haven't yet reached 500 words. Indicates stats will unlock at that milestone.

Action Button setup card

Appears after 50 words dictated on iPhones with an Action Button (iPhone 15 Pro and later). Can be dismissed permanently.

Referral reward card

Appears when a friend you referred reaches 2,000 words, showing a message like "🎉 You got a free month!" with a See rewards button. Not shown to Business plan subscribers. May reappear if not dismissed.

"Press enter" command card

Introduces the "press enter" voice command. The card explains how to use the command — including that it automatically sends messages and prompts. Tap Great to dismiss it.

Week 1 streak card

Appears in the keyboard notification drawer when you earn a new streak day during your first week. Shows your streak progress and complements the Home screen carousel card. See the Week 1 streak cards section below for full details.

Week 1 streak cards

During your first week, Wispr Flow celebrates your progress with streak cards that appear in the keyboard notification drawer after you complete a dictation. These are not push notifications — they appear inside the app while you're using the keyboard.

  • When they appear: After completing a dictation on a new day during your first 7 days. The first streak card ("1 Day Streak 🔥") appears after your first dictation. Subsequent cards appear after completing a dictation on each new day.

  • The goal: Dictate on 5 different days within your first week (days don't need to be consecutive).

  • Haptic feedback: Starting from your second day, you feel a small vibration when you earn a new streak day.

  • Auto-open drawer: Starting from your second day, the keyboard notification drawer opens automatically to show your streak progress when you complete a dictation.

  • Congratulations card: After completing 5 streak days, a congratulations card appears. It stays visible for 24 hours from when you first see it. Tap the dismiss button on the card to close it early.

  • End of tracking: For incomplete streaks, cards stop appearing 24 hours after the 7-day tracking window ends.

Note: The auto-open drawer and haptic feedback require keyboard setup to be complete. If you haven't finished setting up the Flow Keyboard, these features won't trigger even on day 2 or later.

Desktop notifications (Mac & Windows)

On Mac and Windows, Wispr Flow shows additional notifications related to the Transform (polish) feature, microphone health, and voice profile milestones. These appear as splash notifications on your desktop.

"Congrats on your first transform" notification

After you complete your first transform outside the Wispr Flow app, a congratulatory notification appears saying "Congrats, you did your first transform!" It includes a Customize transforms button that opens the Transforms settings directly. This notification only appears during your first few transforms and only after you've completed transform onboarding.

Transform nudge after dictating

After dictating text, a nudge may appear prompting you to try transforming it: "Want to Transform this? Highlight and press [your shortcut]." The shortcut shown is your actual custom keyboard shortcut, not a generic default. This nudge only appears after you've completed transform onboarding and can show up to 20 times.

"Microphone is not working" notification

If Flow doesn't detect any audio from your microphone for 15 seconds during a dictation, a "Microphone is not working" notification appears on your desktop. It stays visible for 60 seconds and includes a Select microphone button that takes you directly to your microphone settings so you can switch to a working input. If your microphone starts picking up audio again before you act, the notification clears automatically.

"Insights Eligible" notification

When you reach a voice profile word-count milestone, a desktop notification lets you know your voice profile insights are on their way. It includes a button that opens your voice profile and insights page. This notification features a celebration animation and only appears for users who have this feature enabled.

"Insights Ready" notification

Once your voice profile has finished generating, a desktop notification lets you know your insights are ready to view. It includes a button that opens your voice profile and insights page. This notification features a celebration animation and only appears for users who have this feature enabled.

Common issues

Tapping "Rate us 5 stars" on the Android review nudge appears to do nothing

This was caused by a bug where tapping Rate us 5 stars on the Google Play review nudge dismissed the dialog without opening the rating sheet. Fixed in version 1.8.0 — tapping Rate us 5 stars now reliably opens the Google Play in-app review sheet. To get the fix:

  1. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version.

  2. Restart Flow after updating.

FAQs

What push notifications does Wispr Flow send on iOS?

The main push notification fires when a friend you referred reaches 2,000 words, earning you a free month of Pro. A local notification ("Complete setup in Wispr Flow") may also appear if you leave the app during initial setup — this uses provisional delivery and doesn't require notification permission. Keyboard notification cards appear in-app and don't require notification permissions.

Why do I see a notification from Wispr Flow on Android?

Android shows one system notification for the "display over other apps" permission, which Flow needs to function. You may also receive an "Enjoying Flow?" push notification once you've completed at least 3 successful dictations and dictated 500 or more words, inviting you to rate the app.

Are notification sounds loud?

Push notifications use the standard iOS notification sound at your system volume level. Adjust or disable notification sounds in iPhone Settings → Apps → Wispr Flow → Notifications. Keyboard notification cards are silent. Dictation start/stop sounds are separate and can be toggled in Wispr Flow → Settings → Audio → Interaction Sounds.

What are Live Activities?

Live Activities display real-time Flow activity on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island while dictating. They include interactive buttons — stop recording or save a note directly from the Dynamic Island or Lock Screen without switching apps.

The Dynamic Island and Lock Screen show a live elapsed timer during recording. During note recording, only a Save Note button appears; during normal dictation, both stop-recording and start-note buttons are shown. The Lock Screen can also display your total word count during non-note dictation sessions. When recording a note, the Live Activity shows statuses like "Saving note…" and "Note saved."

Manage Live Activities in iPhone Settings → Apps → Wispr Flow, or tap Allow Live Activities in Wispr Flow → Settings to be redirected there.

Can I disable just the streak cards?

Week 1 streak cards are an in-app feature, not push notifications. They only appear during your first week and stop automatically after that. There's no separate setting to turn them off. If you've reached 5 streak days, you can dismiss the congratulations card early using the dismiss button on the card.

Can I mute all notifications from Flow?

Turn off all push notifications in iPhone Settings → Apps → Wispr Flow → Notifications, or toggle Push Notifications off in Wispr Flow → Settings (which redirects you to iPhone Settings). Keyboard notification cards are in-app and unaffected by push notification settings.

Where can I see how many words I have left on the free plan?

Your word usage is shown in the statistics carousel at the top of the Home screen. When you're approaching or have reached your weekly limit, a pink banner appears there. You'll also see a "words remaining" warning card in the keyboard notification panel while dictating.

Limitations and notes

  • Push notification controls are managed by your device's operating system. Disabling notifications on iOS or Android always requires going through system Settings.

  • Keyboard notification cards are in-app only and cannot be turned off via notification permissions.

  • Week 1 streak cards only appear during your first 7 days and cannot be re-enabled afterward.

  • The Action Button setup card only appears on iPhone 15 Pro and later models.

  • Referral reward cards are not shown to Business plan subscribers.
