Last updated: April 23, 2026
Available on: Mac, Windows, iOS, Android
Want to remove a transcript, clear your dictation history, or recover something you dismissed? This guide covers every way to manage your transcription data across devices.
How to delete transcripts
Mac & Windows
Delete an individual transcript:
Open Wispr Flow and click Home in the sidebar.
Hover over the transcript you want to remove.
Click the three-dot menu ⋯ on the right side.
Select Delete transcript.
Click Yes, delete it to confirm.
Warning: Deleted transcripts cannot be recovered.
Control how transcripts and polish history are stored:
Open Wispr Flow and go to Settings → Data and Privacy.
Click the Local data storage dropdown and choose one of the following options:
Store data locally — keeps transcripts and polish history as usual (default).
Auto-delete local data every 24 hours — automatically deletes transcripts and polish history older than 24 hours.
Never store data locally — immediately deletes all transcripts and polish history, and prevents any future storage.
Warning: Switching to Auto-delete local data every 24 hours or Never store data locally triggers a confirmation dialog. Deleted data cannot be recovered.
Note: If your organization has enabled the "Never store data locally" policy, the dropdown is disabled with the message: "This setting is managed by your organization." If your organization requires auto-deletion, some options may be restricted, but you can still choose a more restrictive setting.
iOS
Delete an individual transcript:
Open the context menu on any transcript.
Tap Delete to remove it.
A confirmation alert appears before the transcript is deleted. The transcript is removed from your History list only after deletion is confirmed successful. If deletion fails, the transcript remains visible.
Note: The context menu also includes Copy (only for transcripts with text), Retry, and Report.
Enable automatic transcript deletion:
Open the Wispr Flow app and tap Settings → Data & Privacy.
Turn on Automatically delete transcripts (off by default).
When enabled, transcripts from previous days are automatically deleted the next time you open or return to the app. Today's transcripts are always kept.
Delete all history:
Sign out of Wispr Flow on iOS to permanently delete all transcripts stored on your device.
Warning: Signing out on iOS also clears your dictionary, notes, and other local data — it's a complete data wipe, not just transcript deletion.
Android
Transcript history displays on the home page, grouped by day.
Delete an individual transcript:
Find the transcript on the home screen.
Tap the three-dot menu ⋮ on the transcript card.
Tap Delete.
Tap Delete again in the confirmation dialog to confirm.
Warning: Deleted transcripts cannot be recovered.
Delete all history:
Sign out of Wispr Flow on Android to delete all transcripts stored on your device. A confirmation dialog appears before sign-out completes. There is no separate "Delete all" option — signing out is the only way to clear all history.
How to recover a dismissed transcription
Note: The inline Recover link and 14-day recovery flow described below are available on Mac and Windows only. On iOS, tap Retry in the context menu to re-transcribe any transcript.
If you dismissed or canceled a transcription, you can recover it within 14 days.
Open Wispr Flow and click Home in the sidebar.
Find the dismissed entry — it shows "This transcription was dismissed." followed by a clickable "Recover" link.
Click the Recover link. The recovered transcript appears in your history.
Tip: The three-dot menu also has a Retry transcript option that re-transcribes any history item using its stored audio. This works for dismissed transcriptions within 14 days and also applies to other transcript statuses.
Note: Transcriptions stuck in Processing status can also be recovered using the same Recover link.
Warning: Audio data is automatically deleted after 14 days, permanently ending recovery eligibility. After 14 days, the Recover link no longer appears. You can still attempt recovery via the three-dot menu → Retry transcript, but it fails if audio is no longer available. If your organization has enabled the Never Store Data policy, audio is never saved and recovery is not possible.
How to report a transcription issue (Android)
Find the transcript on the home screen.
Tap the Report button on the transcript card.
Describe what you expected instead and tap Send.
The Send button is disabled until you type at least one character. A "Sent successfully!" confirmation appears when your report is submitted.
Note: The Report button appears only on non-failed transcripts. Failed transcriptions show a Retry Transcript option in the three-dot menu instead.
FAQs
Can I recover a deleted transcript?
No. Deleted transcripts cannot be recovered. However, if you dismissed or canceled a transcription (rather than deleted it), you can recover it from History within 14 days on Mac and Windows.
Will signing out delete my transcripts?
Yes, signing out deletes transcripts on all platforms. On Mac, Windows, and iOS, signing out also deletes your dictionary, notes, and other local data. On Android, only transcripts are deleted (other settings are preserved).
Why do I still see transcripts on my phone after deleting history on my computer?
Transcripts are stored locally on each device. Deleting history on one device does not affect your other devices.
Why do I see "History disabled"?
This message appears on the History page when data storage is disabled. The message differs depending on the cause:
Managed by your organization (Enterprise): Your organization has disabled the retention of your dictation history.
Set by you: Data storage is set to never store data. You can change this in Settings → Data and Privacy.
Why doesn't a recovered dictation appear twice in my history?
Only the original dictation attempt is saved to history. Recoveries do not create duplicate entries.
Why is a very short recording missing from my history?
Dismissed recordings shorter than 0.5 seconds appear in your history but cannot be recovered — the audio is too short to be stored. Very brief accidental activations may also be filtered out before recording starts.
Why doesn't the Recover option appear on a dismissed transcription?
The Recover link appears only if the transcription was dismissed within the last 14 days and the audio was long enough to be stored. Dismissals under 0.5 seconds do not save audio and cannot be recovered.
Common issues
Transcript disappeared from History on iOS even though deletion failed
A bug on iOS could cause a transcript to disappear from the History screen even if the deletion failed in the background. In some cases, a "deleted" confirmation was shown even though the transcript was not actually removed. This has been fixed — transcripts are now only removed from History after deletion is confirmed successful. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version to get this fix.
Dictation history disappeared after updating on Windows (v1.4.822)
A bug in version 1.4.822 on Windows could cause dictation history to be wiped during an app update if the local history file had been marked read-only. This most commonly affected users who had OneDrive syncing their AppData folder or who had recently migrated their app directory.
This was fixed in a subsequent update. Wispr Flow now automatically detects and repairs read-only history files on startup. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version to ensure the fix is in place.
Crashes when deleting transcripts or scrolling history
Several crash bugs related to transcript deletion and history scrolling have been fixed in recent versions:
Desktop (v1.4.0): App could crash if a transcript was deleted while actively scrolling through the transcript list.
Android: App could crash when deleting a transcript or scrolling quickly through the transcript list on the home screen.
Update Wispr Flow to the latest version to resolve these issues.
Transcripts missing from history after the app restarted
This was caused by a bug where transcription history could be lost when Wispr Flow's service restarted or shut down. This has been fixed. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version to resolve this.
